The University of Florida is offering a unique opportunity for K-12 teachers to participate in a Summer 2025 Nuclear Engineering Education Workshop from Monday, June 9 to Wednesday, June 11, 2025. This workshop is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and tools to bring nuclear science and engineering concepts into the classroom. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, learn from leading experts in the field, and develop lesson plans aligned with Florida’s academic standards.

Workshop Highlights:
- Hands-on Learning: Engage in interactive activities and experiments adapted for K-12 classrooms.
- Nuclear Engineering Kit: Receive and learn how to use a nuclear engineering demonstration kit, including a radiation detector, irradiated salt, and classroom-ready materials.
- Nuclear Reactor Experience: Participate in activities at the University of Florida Training Reactor
Travel Expenses Covered and Reimbursed
Our award from the U.S. Department of Energy includes participant support costs intended to cover the most, if not all, of the costs for teachers to attend the workshop. This includes:
- Lodging for the participant at the Reitz Union hotel on the University of Florida campus. The workshop will pay for this directly. Check-in on 6/8 and check-out on 6/12.
- Mileage for personal vehicle travel to Gainesville, FL (up to 125 miles one-way, 250 miles round-trip, at the State of Florida mileage allowance rate, currently 44.5ยข per mile.)
- Meal reimbursement using State of Florida rates, currently $36 per day.
